How To Lose Weight On Vacation
Ahhh, vacation. Whether it be for 3 days, 7 or 14, this fun little time can be a death trap for your fitness goals. I’m here to tell you how to jump into the driver’s seat and not let that happen.
Sure, vacation is a time where we get to relax. But does that mean we have to start eating foods that are horrible for us, perhaps have a ton of drinks and not be active? I sure hope not! Not unless your weight loss and bodyfat loss goals mean anything.
Here’s a couple tips on how to make the most of your vacation or quick getaway so that you come home not only relaxed, but PUMPED UP that you are still on track with your fitness…who knows, maybe you even lost a couple pounds!
1) Plan activity into your vacation
This is one of the most important things you can do! Are you going to wine country? Pack the bikes or hiking gear, research some nice nature walks near you. Going somewhere more adventurous like Hawaii? Try some snorkeling, scuba or even some jet skiing!
Just like you plan your workout days when you’re home, you should do it even if you’re away. And the best way to ensure you will exercise on your trip is to PLAN some activities! This way you can still burn some great calories….even if you’re taking in a few too many here and there.
2) Try to plan for just 1 cheat meal per day
Ok, so this is a toughie, but how much is your progress and weight loss worth to you?? This means you can indulge in that dessert or have the eggs benedict for breakfast, it’s your call. However, don’t go the rest of the day eating like that, it’s just not worth it and I’ll bet 10:1 you will feel like crap too!
Planning for just 1 cheat meal will both give you something to look forward to in terms of a “treat” but will also keep you on point with other food choices when you’re out and about. Trust me, there are a lot of healthy items on every food menu out there that DO in fact taste good!
3) Water is your friend
People become camels when on vacation. You’re at a hotel, too lazy to go buy some waters for your room or use the tap (if it is safe that is) and so alcohol or sodas are just easier. Wrong!
Chances are that without water constantly nearby, you will drink more high calorie drinks and snack more often….all bad for that dreadful day you get home and put both feet back on that scale.
So do yourself a favor, take the 20 minutes to go to a local market and stock up on waters and ALWAYS have a bottle near you. You will be surprised at how it helps not only keep you hydrated and perhaps full, but how much it limits your bad snacks!
There you have it ladies and gentlemen, 3 fundamental tips to keep you feelin good and lookin good on that vacation and even when you return!
